Cambridge ON, February 10, 2026: SMV Energy Solutions, registered as 5021898 Ontario Inc, is pleased to announce that it is a registered Other Market Participant (OMP) in the Canadian federal government’s Output Based Pricing System (OBPS), and that Sharolyn Vettese is the authorized account representative.
An OMP has an account in Canada’s Greenhouse Gas Offset Credit System that comprises the Credit and Tracking System (CATS), and the Public Registry.
CATS is the shared IT platform that is used to administer Canada’s GHG Offset Credit System (CGHG-OCS) and the OBPS. The Public Registry lists the projects that have met the conditions of registration in the Canadian Greenhouse Gas Offset Credit System Regulations (the Regulations).
Other Market Participants are an entity such as a broker or trader, unlike the Mandatory Participants and Voluntary Participants that are regulated under Canada’s Greenhouse Gas Offset Credit System. The OMP must be located in Canada.
As a broker or trader, the OMP is not regulated under the OBPS, and is not a project proponent regulated under CGHG-OCS. Instead, the OMP facilitates the buying and selling, by owning and/or managing, the federal offset or surplus credits to track the credit transactions as required on Canada’s Greenhouse Gas Offset Credit System (CGHG-OCS).
Canada’s OBPS is designed to ensure there is a cost/profit incentive and a competitive advantage to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). It is an effective economic tool to transition Canada to a green economy that increases productivity. Qualified provincial programs in Alberta, British Columbia, and Quebec are also included in the OBPS.
